The Day Before Halloween… and I Caved

It was the day before Halloween, and there I was alone in the house, minding my own business… or so I thought. I kept walking past the downstairs hallway, innocently glancing at that one perfect spot and whispering to myself, “That’s a really good spot for a Christmas tree.”

I tried to resist. Truly, I did. I told myself “Don’t do it, girl. Not yet.” But before I knew it, I had lost the battle to my own glitter-loving heart.

By lunchtime, I was deep in the basement aka known as “Laura’s Mini Department Store.” If Macy’s ever needed a seasonal understudy, my basement could audition. Stacks of trees, ornaments, ribbons, garlands, and of course, boxes labeled Hermès-inspired décor. All organized by rolling racks that my husband installed two summers ago when he said our basement was out of control! Silly him out of control never !

Fast forward twenty minutes and I’m hauling up the first tree, my Hermès Tree, the one dressed in shades of deep orange , black and brown tones also with little ornaments and mini orange boxes wrapped like couture gifts. I’m halfway up the stairs when I hear the door open.

Standing there is my sweet husband, TK, grinning like he’s just caught a holiday elf in the act.

“You just couldn’t wait, could you?” he says, laughing.

And I, surrounded by ornaments and orange ribbon, proudly replied, “Nope. Christmas came early,  and she came in Hermès. And she whispered put me up lady now “
